April Showers Bring May… Mosquitoes??
Look Out For Mosquitoes In The Month Of May!

In the month of April, the weather was… less than ideal! It was cold outside and seemed like it was raining every other day. Not the Spring weather most Minnesotans were looking for. Unfortunately, the rainy weather may also lead to large mosquito populations in May. Mosquitoes need standing water to reproduce and the large amounts of rain create more areas for mosquitoes to lay their eggs. Rain will fill up everything from items in the yard such as pools, birdfeeders, boxes, buckets, tires, and toys to naturally occurring areas such as land on a decline, swamps, wetlands, ponds, and more. Even though April temperatures mostly weren’t suitable for mosquitoes, these are all areas that mosquitoes can lay their eggs once the weather warms up. Mosquito populations can quickly grow this month and the next depending on the temperatures we have going forward.
